CROUTON

This was the quickest goodbye we have to date.  We had to love hard and quick on our dear Crouton.  He arrived at Pug Nation with a horrible cough, he was losing weight and showed no interest in food. When the cough was unable to be helped with medication, an x-ray showed that there was a mass beginning in his cranial lobe, so we headed to California ASAP to get him home quickly.  It was hard to believe this guy was in palliative care. He showed up with a sassy attitude, his appetite was back and with the cough suppressant we had him on, he was doing wonderfully...until we celebrated his third week with us.  It was almost like a switch was flipped.  His feet became sore and tender, almost like they were swelling and the pads were tearing.  Medication to suppress the cough was doubled and an inhaler was added.  The cough was manageable but he could no longer put weight on his bandaged feet.  Another x-ray confirmed that the mass had spread considerably and there was an infection running through his system, the cancer would not allow it to heal.  The Dr. called it “mass failure”.  We are so grateful to have spent the month caring for him, loving him hard, and that we were there to carry you to the bridge.
