PAXTON

Our first rescue, the introduction of our family to Pug Nation, and the reason Boon-a-fide Pets Sanctuary exists. As a family that had its heart set on rescuing a Pug, we found Paxton online and fell in love.  He was a sad broken spirit that tore at our hearts, and even if it meant driving 2600 km’s to LA… so be it.  We couldn’t understand why he had been there for as long as he had, but soon found out, he was bonded with a sweet girl Olive who had stage 4 kidney disease. We were approved for adoption and started our long journey. Paxton was with us for five years and we planned on another five, if not more… But we were wrong. The morning of September 9th, 2023 Paxton walked into the kitchen, as He always did to have breakfast, and then collapsed.  We rushed him to the VCA emergency, where we learned that at the age of 9, our Pax Man suffered a stroke. He was there for a week, and even though there was a chance he might need IV, or a wheelchair, or need to be expressed for the rest of his life, it didn’t matter, it’s what we do.  He was improving and was being discharged Thursday at 8 pm. Our boy was coming home! Thursday at 6:45 pm we received a call that he had re-stroked, and it was best we got there as soon as possible, as he was fading fast. We raced to the Care Center in just enough time to say goodbye. Did that just happen? Is our Paxton gone? We were all stunned and shattered.
